![]() Queens Birthday Tournament 2007 (Christchurch)The 2007 NZISA Annual Sports Tournament headed south this year, hosted by the Christchurch Indian Sports Club. Everyone who attended were treated to fine southern hospitality, fabulous sunny days and exhilarating Netball and Hockey action. Netball teams competing this year were, Christchurch, Auckland and Waikato. The teams played each other twice therefore completing two rounds over two days of play. The standard of Netball increases every year. Auckland has set the standard and was the deserved eventual winners. The stand out games were between Waikato and Christchurch, absolute nail biters! Women's Hockey. With three team entries, Wellington, Pukekohe and Christchurch (yes Christchurch, their 1st women's hockey team to compete at QBT) the three clubs agreed to a different format. After a standard round robin play on Sunday, the round robin winner, Wellington went direct to the final, and Christchurch and Pukekohe fought out the final place in an early Monday morning semi final. Won by Christchurch, they met Wellington in the final, with Wellington the winners. Men's B Section Hockey. Four teams made up the B Section, North Harbour, Pukekohe B, Bay of Plenty and Auckland B. This section was always going to be hot! With only four teams, a trophy and promotion to the A section for the winner it was going to be tight and it lived up to expectations with two teams, Auckland B and North Harbour on equal points heading into the last game against each other (could not have planned it better). Heartache for Auckland B, jubilation for North Harbour. Men's A Section. Everything here was normal. Six teams competing for the coveted Dhyan Chand Trophy, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland A, Central Districts, Wellington B and Pukekohe. Hard to think of a game that was not thrilling. We were all treated to some superb hockey that went down to the wire on more than one occasion. Penalty strokes became the order of the day. On paper there were a number of teams that could have taken home the silverware, Wellington did the business and the trophy is there for the year. Congratulations to all players who made the NZISA tournament teams and to those voted most valuable player for each of their squads. Thank you to everyone who attended tournament this year, especially to the members of the Christchurch Indian Sports Club for being such fantastic hosts.
